Patru manifestanti pro-Palestina au fost arestati joi, 4 iulie, pentru ca au urcat pe acoperisul Parlamentului Australiei, din capitala Canberra. O ancheta a fost deschisa cu privire la incalcarea securitatii dupa ce Parlamentul a fost partial blocat pentru ca activistii au urcat pe acoperis, relateaza agentia Reuters si publicatia britanica The Guardian.


Protestul de joi, axat pe razboiul din Gaza, a parut sa fie coordonat cu alte actiuni care atrageau atentia asupra crizei climatice si a drepturilor indigenilor.


In jurul orei locale 10.00, protestatari fata de criza climatica au atras initial politia si ofiterii de securitate parlamentara in foaierul din interiorul cladirii. Manifestantii s-au lipit de stalpii de marmura si, in timp ce erau degajati si escortati afara, un al doilea grup de protestatari a aparut si a escaladat un zid si un portic de deasupra intrarii principale a Parlamentului.

Activistii cocotati pe acoperisul cladirii au citit o declaratie care cereau incetarea ,,sprijinului SUA si Australiei pentru statul Israel acuzat de genocid".


,,Pentru guvernul Albanese (premierul Australiei - n.r.): nu vom uita, nu vom ierta si vom continua sa rezistam", a spus unul dintre protestatari.


Protestatarii au stat pe acoperisul cladirii timp de peste o ora, desfasurand bannere negre, inclusiv unul pe care scria ,,de la rau la mare, Palestina va fi libera", un slogan comun al manifestantilor propalestinieni.


In cele din urma, cei patru - trei barbati si o femeie - au fost arestati, fiind acuzati de incalcare a proprietatii. Ei au primit interdictie de a intra in incinta Parlamentului timp de doi ani, a declarat un purtator de cuvant al politiei din Teritoriul Capitalei Australiene.


Reactia premierului Anthony Albanese


Incidentul a fost condamnat de premierul australian Anthony Albanese.


,,Cei responsabili ar trebui sa simta intreaga forta a legii. Protestele pasnice ocupa un loc important in societatea noastra, dar acesta nu a fost un protest pasnic", a spus seful guvernului de la Canberra.


De asemenea, presedintele Camerei inferioare a Parlamentului Australiei, Milton Dick, a declarat ca a ordonat o ancheta privind modul in care s-a produs bresa de securitate.


,,I-am cerut comisarului o revizuire mai ampla a masurilor de securitate. Nu vreau ca evenimentele de astazi sa se repete. Suntem profund ingrijorati de evenimentul din aceasta dimineata", a declarat Milton Dick.


Incidentul a avut loc in aceeasi zi in care Fatima Payman, senatoare al Partidului Laburist, aflat la guvernare, a parasit partidul pentru a activa ca independenta, dupa ce a fost suspendata pentru ca a votat in favoarea unei motiuni de sustinere a statului palestinian.


Australia, care a cerut o incetarea a focului intre Israel si Hamas, nu recunoaste in prezent statul palestinian. Totusi, ministra de externe Penny Wong a declarat in luna mai ca Australia ar putea face acest lucru inainte de finalizarea unui proces de pace oficial intre Israel si autoritatile palestiniene.


Razboiul din Gaza a inceput pe 7 octombrie 2023, cand atacatorii Hamas au intrat pe teritoriul israelian, au ucis 1.200 de persoane si au luat aproximativ 250 de ostatici, potrivit Israelului. Ofensiva lansata de Israel ca represalii a ucis aproape 38.000 de persoane, potrivit Ministerului Sanatatii din Gaza, controlat de Hamas.


De la inceputul razboiului, in Australia au avut loc mai multe manifestatii pro-Palestina, inclusiv demonstratii saptamanale in marile orase si o ocupare de luni intregi a campusurilor universitare.
